Welcome to the TKD500 – an event like no other in Taekwon-Do!

Across the country in the same week, teams of 4 will compete together, sweat together and achieve together 500 repetitions of three techniques.

How do you win?
You will need to work with your team strategically to try and complete the exercises in the quickest time. But beware – only techniques performed correctly can be counted!

Touch contact and sloppy technique won’t be recorded – this is still Taekwon-Do, where we have fun but we work hard!

Your team
A team is made up of 4 people.

The competitors can be of any rank or age.

Completing the exercises
There are three exercises that the team must complete 500 repetitions of, as a team. i.e. individuals don’t perform 500 of each exercise, the number is reached through the combined efforts of the team.

How the 500 of each exercise is allocated to team members is up to the team. For example, one team member may do 100 kicks, then another might do 50 squats, the third team member does 100 punches. Your strategy of how you circulate the exercises, swap pad holders, recording and give team members rest may have a significant bearing on who ends up being the fastest.

Only one person from the team can be performing an exercise at any time, and the other team members circulate rest, pad holding, recording and encouragement.

When recording you will need to be alert and reliable. If you lose count … sorry, it isn’t doesn’t get recorded!

TKD500 comprises 3 exercises:

  • Side piercing kick
Performed with the front leg of an L-stance guarding block position. You must re-place front kicking foot on the floor between kicks.

The kick must contact a kick shield with good power to be counted.

  • Middle Front Punches

Jab/cross to focus mitts. Arms must be fully extended and retracted, and fist must connect with the mitt to be counted.

  • Squat
Performed with a standard “air-squat” technique, returning to a fully upright position between each squat.

The squat must be low enough to bring the thighs parallel to the floor.
